What to look for when buying dog gear

Not all apparel and cold-weather is made equal, and the differences aren't always obvious in a product photo. Here's what we check.

Materials first

Read what something is actually made of. It tells you more about how it'll wear than any marketing line.

The finish and the joins

Look at edges, seams and hardware — that's where corners get cut. Clean finishing is a good sign the rest was done with care.

Function over flash

Ask whether it does its job better than what you already own. If it doesn't, it's just more stuff.

Fair pricing
